Big Fish Games Online Game Community
Community Update

Avid L.O.B.E. fans might have noticed a new fish, Ion Merlin, in the Big Fish Games pond. Fresh Meat! J/K! His name is Matt and he’s a new chat moderator.

Michelle: Welcome, Matt! How did you come to work at Big Fish Games?
Matt: I have always enjoyed playing games throughout my life, and was looking to get started in an industry working for a company whose goals and passion for games and people aligned with mine. I was referred to Big Fish Games by a good friend of mine, and the rest is history. :)

Michelle: Could you tell us a bit about your job?
Matt: Sure! I do customer support for the Big Fish Games Community which includes answering e-mails regarding all different sorts of questions that customers might have, as well as moderating the chat rooms within the game community, answering questions, and also getting to play the games of course, which is awesome!

Michelle: What are the best and worst parts about being a chat monitor?
Matt: The best thing about being a chat monitor is getting to actually be in the chat rooms and really talk to the players. It’s great to hear their likes, dislikes, and concerns about the games. Also, getting to interact with others who like games as much as I do is an awesome perk. The worst part is when there’s a customer who is really angry, upset or causing a bunch of trouble in a room, cause then it’s my job clean up the mess. I like being helpful, but at times it can be quite a handful, lol!

Michelle: You’re the first new chat monitor in quite some time. How have the players reacted?
Matt: So far it has been a really positive experience. I get to play games with people, and talk about whatever’s going on that day in the gaming world. The players have treated me with nothing but kindness, so it’s been great.

Michelle: Could you tell us about your background?
Matt: I grew up in Renton Washington with my awesome family, and then attended Western Washington University, class of 2007, with a degree in Communications and Economics. I have always loved the Northwest, and have lived here my whole life.

Michelle: What do you do in your free time?
Matt: Anything and Everything. :) I like skiing a lot, playing the piano, playing Xbox 360, going for long runs, mountain biking, playing addicting online community games, and going on road trips. I think it’s important and fun to experience a different side of life for a while. The last trip I went on was with some friends to Washington D.C., New York, and Boston last summer.

When I’m just hanging out and chilling with my buddies we’re listening to music, watching a good action/comedy movie, playing video games like Rock Band and Rainbow Six on the Xbox, or going outside and playing some basketball or tennis. I don’t really watch much T.V.; I prefer to do things that are interactive most of the time.

Michelle: What would most people find surprising about you?
Matt: Hmmm… Well I’ve played the piano for about 15 years and really enjoy it. I have “gigs” every once in a while for fun around in different venues and play all sorts of music from jazz, to pop, to even classical depending on the situation.

Michelle: That’s really neat and very unique. What kind of music you listen to? Do you have a favorite piano piece?
Matt: I like all different types of music: acoustic and classic rock, jazz, indie, blues, and classical. I don’t know if I can narrow it down to “one”, but I’m really enjoying playing Ben Fold’s piano music right now.

Michelle: What are your favorite games?
Matt: That would be a long list lol, but right now I am really enjoying LOBE, Big Fish Slots, Unwell Mel, and Madame Fate.

Michelle: Do you have anything you’d like to say to all the players out there?
Matt: Just that I am really excited about how the online community is growing, taking shape, and making changes for the future. Have Fun! Life is a game so get out there and play it. I’ll see ya out there. :)

Michelle: Thanks for chatting with us, Matt.
