Big Fish Games Online Game Community
Community Update

Many of our Game Community players will recognize this week's interviewee - Ion Hope.

Michelle: Hi Hope! I understand you've been with Big Fish Games for quite some time. How did you come to work with Big Fish Games and how long have you been here?
Hope: I have been with this site since before it was acquired by Big Fish Games. I was handpicked to moderate the game rooms by the original group who ran the site. I was offered to stay on when Big Fish Games acquired the site and I happily agreed! This is my home away from home! I have been here 6 years with the site and officially just about 3 years as a Big Fish Games employee.

M: What does a typical day look like for you?
H: I start by checking all work email, running through all reports received since my last shift, and dealing with any issues/player problems that arose while I was away. Once I am done with that I open up our tool for handling the player's emails. These include tech support, game questions, suggestions, sometimes complaints (sshhhh), etc. Once I have that under control I try to spend as much time in the rooms as I can. I love chatting with our players live and answering any questions they have.

M: Could you tell us about your background?
H: I am from the east coast of the United States. I'm only girl with 5 brothers. Can you say out numbered? :o) I was married at 32 and had 2 daughters. My oldest daughter, Kayla, is 9 and my youngest daughter, Mary, is 7. They are the single greatest joy of my life!

M: What questions do you get asked most often?
H: There are a few! I am often asked if I can play the games while I am in a room chatting with the players. Unfortunately, our monitor program has no actual game attached. I am also asked why my name is not seen in the room when I am in there chatting. I explain about our cool "stealth" mode. I get asked for more options for the players to chat in various colors (only if you work for Big Fish Games!).

I tend to be bombarded with tech issues/questions as well. Much of our support is done live in the rooms. Many ask why a game is sticking or freezing. In most cases if the entire room is not experiencing the issue then it is generally improved by emptying the cache of temporary internet files, cookies and Sun Java cache and rebooting. It is also helpful to make sure there are not unnecessary programs running in the background.

M: What do you wish every Community Gamer knew?
H: This may seem silly but I wish they knew there was a difference between the Internet Explorer browser that comes with their computer and a version that is shelled by their ISP. I see so many struggles with sign in issues; in a large percentage of the cases they are using a shelled browser. ISPs add their own files which can often interfere with sign-ins and proper game loading. I also hope they know how much they are appreciated! They CHOOSE to play here and be a part of this wonderful community. They are fantastic!

M: What would gamers familiar with you be surprised to find out?
H: They may be surprised to know I started out as a gamer just like them! I completely understand and appreciate the joys and frustrations that can go along with online gaming. I am very passionate about helping them to have the BEST game experience here.

M: What do you do in your spare time?
H: I don't have much, but I do make time for bingo once a week. I love to knit and crochet. It is rare for me to not have a craft project or two going. I also love to play tennis! When the weather is nice I take my girls to our local park for a game on the courts.

M: What are your favorite games?
H: I love our Riddle O' Day, as well as Farm 51. I am an old hand at Thunderbolt 21, as well as Team Bingo. I am our resident word freak (or so I am told) in game testing. So any word games are right up my alley. A great game like Dive! is perfect to soothe me. :o) Big Fish Slots! reminds me of the rush of sitting at one of my favorite slot machines in Atlantic City. Oh! And the game we have coming out soon is awesome! It has...oops getting ahead of myself here! Where is my brain at?

M: Jeez, Hope! Way to nearly loose your marbles! Anything else you'd like our players to know?
H: I hope they know I enjoy my job immensely. There is nothing I enjoy more than chatting with the players and getting to know them and vice versa. There is nothing like the feeling of community this fosters. I want then to know I am a devoted advocate for them.
