On the right side of the screen you can find your inventory of available tools. A number displayed next to the image of a given tool, indicates how many of that tool remain available for you to use. Each use of that tool will reduce the number by one. You can have a maximum of 9 for each type of tool at any one time. If you collect another one while you have 9 in inventory it WILL be removed from within the level but it will NOT be added to your inventory.
To use a tool, use the mouse to click on it, on the ladder off to the right. (The mouse pointer will show the selected tool.) Then click on the space within the level where you wish to use that tool. If a question mark is shown, it means that the selected tool cannot be used in that location in the level.
Foot: You can use the foot to move about within the level. While moving, spider webs, plankton and mist that you move to will dissolve. You can push a single cannonball or boulder, dynamite or an activated bomb automatically while moving, if there is empty space on the opposite side of them.
Hand: You can use the hand to manipulate objects positioned directly next to you without moving: You can pick up collectible items; dissolve spider webs, plankton or mist; or push a cannonball, boulder or dynamite or an activated bomb, if there is empty space on the opposite side of them. You can also activate the rotation wheel and the detonator with the hand. You can collect falling (or floating) diamonds and other objects continuously, one after the other, when using the hand by pressing and holding down the left mouse button(or the appropriate keys when playing with a keyboard).
Bomb: You can pick up bombs as well. Collected bombs can be put down in an adjacent empty space. The bomb will then explode shortly thereafter, so it's advisable to move away from it quickly, push it with the hand or kick it with a boot. You will be awarded bonus points for each bomb remaining in your inventory of tools at the end of the level.
Hammer: You can also find hammers in some levels. They can be used to smash a cannonball or boulder if it's in the way and is adjacent to you. You can also place a hammer in an empty space, and pick it up later. You will be awarded bonus points for each hammer remaining in your inventory of tools at the end of the level.
Boot: Boots can be collected as well, in some of the levels. If they are horizontally adjacent to you, you can kick a cannonball or boulder, dynamite or an activated bomb, horizontally across the level if there is empty space on the opposite side of them. An object kicked will travel horizontally, without falling, until it collides with another object. Boots can be placed in an empty space and picked up again later as well. You will be awarded bonus points for each boot remaining in your inventory of tools at the end of the level.
Lives: If something lands on your head; or, you are hurt by an explosion; or, an enemy touches you; or, time time runs out, you lose a life and you will have to restart the level. If you are trapped and you wish to restart the level, you will need to forfeit a life. This can be done in the Pause Menu or by clicking on this 'heart' tool. When starting a new game or when resuming a previously ended game, you are given five lives. In some levels, when they are available, you can collect extra lives. These can be used in other levels as you advance since these are kept in your inventory as you go from level to level. You are awarded bonus points at the end of the game for each life remaining in inventory.
Skip Level: If you are hopelessly stuck in a level, click on this tool, which will take you to the next level. Note, the points collected in the given level you were playing will be lost. When starting a new game or when resuming a previously ended game you are given five such skip tools. When completing the last level in the game, you will be awarded bonus points for each skip tool remaining in your inventory.
